This presentation will explain some of the more complex rules surrounding allocation and use of the GST exemption and the GST Tax, and how to apply those rules and minimize the tax. Mr. Higgins will cover "Everyday" scenarios that will apply to most estate planners.
Speaker Bios: Joe Higgins is a senior associate in the Trusts and Estates Practice Group of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Mr. Higgins counsels owners of closely-held businesses, principals of private equity and venture capital funds, individuals and their families and family offices in connection with tax-efficient wealth transfers, charitable giving, multi-generational planning and business succession planning. He is the co-author of "Tricky GST Issues" (published in Bloomberg BNA in March 2017) and a contributor to an e-book on estate planning, The Complete Estate Planning Sourcebook (published by Wolters Kluwer). He is a member of the Young Professional Advisory Committee of the Chicago Community Trust and the New Practitioners Committee of the Editorial Advisory Board of Trusts & Estates Magazine. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and received a degree in Accounting from Carthage College.
