Nora J. Garvey
As a Trust Managing Director, Nora leads a personal trust team, which provides trust and estate services to individuals and families at all stages of life. She has an extensive background in complex estate administration, trust asset allocation and private foundation management.
Nora began her career in the banking and financial services industry in 1995. Prior to joining The Private Client Reserve, Nora worked for The Northern Trust Company in Chicago, Illinois, serving in a variety of roles within the Trust and Wealth Management group, most recently as a Senior Vice President, Senior Trust Advisor and Fiduciary Team Leader.
Nora has a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and a Certified Private Wealth Advisor® (CPWA®). The CPWA®designation was earned through a certification program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is specifically designed to address the unique needs of high-net-worth individuals.
Jerome R. Crabtree
Jerome R. Crabtree is an attorney in Freeborn’s Corporate Practice Group, with a focus on trust & estates matters.
Jerome has experience counseling clients on entity formation, corporate structure, and other corporate governance matters. Prior to joining Freeborn, Jerome was an Associate at Ziliak Law, where he represented several funds launching and doing business in a variety of states, drafted business plans, employee handbooks, independent contractor agreements, non-disclosure and non-compete agreements, and other corporate documents for LLCs and corporations. Jerome also worked with clients in the media and entertainment space, as well as cannabis start-ups, further diversifying his practice.
In addition to his experience at his previous firm, Jerome worked as an extern for the Honorable Nathaniel R. Howse, Jr. in the First District of the Illinois Appellate Court, a law clerk at a Fortune 50 company, and as a student clinician in Loyola’s Business Law Clinic.
He received his B.A. from University of Iowa, and his J.D. from Loyola University.
Michael D. Whitty
Michael Whitty is a Partner in the Corporate Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in estate planning, taxation, and estate and trust administration. Michael represents business owners, principals of venture capital and private equity funds, key executives, investors, and other high-net-worth individuals in planning for the preservation and transfer of their wealth.
Specifically, he advises individuals and fiduciaries in the design and drafting of estate plans, wills, trusts, lifetime gifts, premarital agreements, and other estate planning documents. Michael has extensive experience with various types of trusts, family limited partnerships, corporate recapitalizations, shareholders’ and redemption agreements, private annuities, installment sales, intratrust sales and other transactions, self-canceling installment notes, and net gifts. He also reviews and manages estate and gift tax returns, including complex reporting and valuation issues.
Additionally, Michael consults with executors, administrators, guardians, and trustees in probate and trust administration. He supervises the drafting of estate administration documents and the filing of pleadings, motions and accountings with probate courts. He also advises clients in connection with litigation involving disputes between trustees and beneficiaries and in contested trust and tax matters, and he has served as an expert witness in such cases.
Prior to joining Freeborn, Michael was a Partner at Handler Thayer LLP.
