A client's death often creates new planning opportunities that can significantly affect income, estate, and transfer tax outcomes. This presentation examines key postmortem planning techniques, including basis adjustment strategies, disclaimer planning, estate administration elections, and opportunities involving trusts and retirement assets. We will explore common deadlines, decision points, and traps for the unwary that arise during estate administration. Through practical examples, attendees will learn how thoughtful post-death planning can preserve wealth and improve tax efficiency for beneficiaries.
